Microsoft Officially Comments on the Xbox One Used Games Situation
More vague answers. Want to know the official details on Microsoft’s plans for used games on the Xbox One? We do finally have an official clarification from Major Nelson, but you may have to wait a while for any real answers. On a statement posted on his blog today, Xbox Live’s Director of Programming, Larry Hryb (Major Nelson), posted the following statement: Over the past few days, we have been reading comments and message boards following the Xbox One announcement. There are a few questions regarding used games. I wanted to clarify and provide this official statement: The ability to trade in and resell games is important to gamers and to Xbox. Xbox One is designed to support the trade in and resale of games. Reports about our policies for trade in and resale are inaccurate and incomplete. We will disclose more information in the near future. Now, we love Major Nelson but this doesn’t really say anything at all and we won’t pretend it does. The ‘reports’ he mentions may refer to a piece on MCV, that cites retail sources, saying that Microsoft and the publisher would receive a cut of all used game sales and that Xbox One games could only be sold to an authorized dealer who has agreed to their terms and conditions. What is the most surprising in all of this is Microsoft’s complete lack of understanding of their target market. Not having clear answers for the two major questions on everyone’s mind, used games and always online, shows a disconnect from the fans that is wider than we could have imagined. Let’s hope they actually clear all of this up soon. The post Microsoft Officially Comments on the Xbox One Used Games Situation appeared first on .... Read More»
