We take a look at MLB 2K10. Is it a grand slam, or a three pitch backwards K? Find out in our review.
One of the perks of living in Arizona is that I get to go see Spring Training every year. And earlier this month I took my 3 year old son to his first baseball game, the spring opener between the Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox. We had $10 tickets in the 4th row right by first base. After pregame warm ups, Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick motioned to me and threw me a ball for my son. The smile on my son’s face at such a simple thing as a baseball will stay with me forever.
This is the beauty of baseball. The strategy of the game is much easier for the layman to grasp in comparison to the complexities of the Lakers Triangle Offense or the Steelers Zone Blitz scheme. At it’s core it’s just a ball, a bat, and nine guys trying to keep you from scoring. But sometimes it’s the simplest of games that can bring the grandest moments, whether it be a walk off HR, the unexpected no hitter, or the smile of a young boy holding a baseball at his first game, you never know what what you’ll find except a bat, a ball and a dream.
While baseball may be a simple game, it’s not always an easy sport to translate over to video games. This has been attempted many times over the years by many different developers to varying degrees of success. The 2K9 version in particular was riddled with bugs and glitches, such as the infamous glitch that cause the first baseman’s foot to come off of the bag on roughly forty percent of infield throws. However the most memorable glitch for me personally corrupted my save file 104 games into my franchise last year, sending me into a near controller breaking rage. So it was with some trepidation that I opened the box and put MLB 2K10 into my gaming console, hopeful to find the same simple pleasure that had brought joy to my son that afternoon. Read more
