Minecraft Breaks Xbox Live’s One Day Sales Record
A new champion is crowned. Just a few short days after Trials Evolution set a new record, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition smashes the one-day sales record on Xbox Live. In a recent post on MajorNelson.com, Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hryb posted that “Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition has has broken all previous Xbox LIVE Arcade digital sales records, selling more than any other title in the first 24 hours on Xbox LIVE Arcade. I just looked at the leaderboards and there are over 400,000 people playing…so that will give you an idea at how well it is doing.” While the exact sales numbers haven’t been given the number that Hryb gives will be very close to the actual sales numbers. It seems that the phenomenon that is Minecraft has translated very well to the Xbox 360 and it’s momentum is still strong despite being in the top tier of Xbox Live Arcade pricing at 1600 Points or $19.99. Not bad for a game that started its life being developed by one guy. Mojang is an indie studio that founder Markus “Notch” Persson has said he doesn’t even think of as being Indie anymore because of the amount of money they’ve made. Still, all this has been done despite having a small team and no major publisher, so that’s as Indie as it gets, if you ask me. I can tell you that we here at The Controller Online are having a great time playing Minecraft and you can check out our Review Here. Co-op is a lot of fun and works perfectly. I can also tell you we’re really excited to see Mojang’s next cryptically titled game “0X10C”. Congratulations to all involved... Read More»

The Making of Sorcery: The Music Behind the Myth
In this installment of our “Making of Sorcery” video series, we turn our attention to the music and sound design in this upcoming PlayStation Move title. It was very important to have a Celtic inspired score for this game, but we wanted to do something a bit unusual with Celtic music, almost stretching the use of the instruments where possible in an effort to give the world of Sorcery its own unique sound. As you'll notice, we have drums, flutes, and other instruments that give the music somewhat of a medieval feel, but at the same time we didn't want to be limited to that.
We wanted to bring in as many other sounds as possible to create a wider palette. The result is a fusion of traditional Celtic music with more contemporary instrumentation and sound effects that boost the feeling of immersion you get by casting spells with the PS Move controller. Here's a look, and don't forget Sorcery will hit stores in North America on Tuesday, May 22nd!... Read More»
