I can’t help but feel at the close of 2010 that this year was a perfectly servicable, but not great, year of gaming. Whenever I bring this up to friends and colleagues, they disagree with me, citing Call of Duty: Black Ops or Red Dead Redemption, rattling off about their experiences in Halo: Reach or Heavy Rain. I feel like a contrarian. No matter what game released this year, from the ones that I loved the most (Mass Effect 2 and Super Meat Boy) all the way down to those that I liked the least (I’ll single out Fable III here), each had some significant flaw that I thought detracted from the experience, enough so to keep them from being legendary releases.
