Cyberpunk is the new Fantasy.
CD Projekt had previously said that their next game would be a Cyberpunk RPG, but it wasn’t until today that we found out that it would be THE Cyberpunk RPG. Cyberpunk 2077 will be based on the popular pen-and-paper RPG, Cyberpunk 2020.
CD Projekt Red are working directly with Mike Pondsmith, creator of Cyberpunk 2020 to build the best representation of the original game possible. Excited to see where this goes? I am.
Pondsmith explains the choice of studio by saying, “Believe it not, almost none of my friends in the digital or the tabletop game industry has ever asked me why the heck we committed our Cyberpunk® baby to the tender mercies of a bunch of guys in some far off place like Poland. Some of them have wondered why I’m willing to endure nine hours on a plane and days of crushing jet lag to work personally with the Cyberpunk® dev team, but in the main, CDPR is pretty well respected in the circles I run in and my colleagues all think we were damned lucky to hook up with them. (And when the jet lag clears, I usually agree.)”
I’m excited that along with Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs and Remember Me are among the few titles bringing the Cyberpunk genre of fiction into video games. Watch the announcement trailer below:
