After all this time hearing about the huge fan uproar regarding the ending of Mass Effect 3, which I do not disagree with, however is not the way to have faith in a developer you are loyal to. So I can see both sides as having a good point, but regardless Bioware has gone through and created downloadable content for everyone, that will be free and entitled Mass Effect 3: The Extended Cut. The most important thing that fans should understand is that the Extended Cut DOES NOT change any of the three endings in the game. Instead, the content will add new scenes as well as epilogue scenes to address players unanswered questions, giving them more of a sense of closure. The impact of your decisions throughout all three games will be made more clear.
Although the content will basically just be cut scenes, it still weighs in at nearly 2GB, so it will hopefully be entertaining as well as satisfying. Once downloaded, to access the Extended Cut, you’ll need a game save right before the attack on Cerberus base to load up. Upon completing the original game it should have automatically created a save there for you, so long as you did not continue on with other conquests afterwards. At 1.9GB, I think it should be easy to tell when you start seeing the additional content.
Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will be available for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on June 26th while Playstation 3 owners in the UK will need to wait until July 4th. Above you can hear the interview/commentary with Bioware members on the subject of the Extended Cut. Bioware has stated “It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings,” in regard to the Extended Cut.
