Nintendo enticing devs to publish on Wii U eShop

A report by Wii U Daily suggests Nintendo will offer developers “insane incentives” in order to attract strong support for its Wii U eShop.

Nintendo has learned from its mistakes and will be offering heavy incentives to publish full-retail titles on the Wii U eShop, website Wii U Daily is reporting.

The information apparently arrived at the site courtesy of an anonymous developer, who said:

“They’re offering insane incentives for publishers to sell retail games as downloads on the console. You’d be stupid not to take advantage of it and go retail box-only”.

According to the source, these “insane incentives” translate to “a much bigger revenue cut that [sic] you’d get selling it on any other platform at the moment, plus promotions on the online store.”

The Wii U eShop will be available at launch. In an investor briefing earlier in the year, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that first-party Wii U launch titles would receive a digital release alongside the physical retail launch.

Commenting on the future of Nintendo’s digital distribution efforts, the anonymous Wii U Daily source said, “If they [Nintendo] pull it off and it gains traction, it’ll press the other guys [Microsoft and Sony] to give more of the revenue to the publishers. It’s very good for us who make games.”
