Nintendo’s 3 Largest Mistakes with the Wii U

After the many months players have known about the Nintendo Wii U, players would have thought they would see a little bit more from the console. Of course there have been some huge announcements and some great delights but there are many vital aspects revolving around Nintendo’s Wii U console that are left unanswered. For being the first next-gen console to emerge there must be some great points that force players to want to buy that console that make players believe it is truly next-gen. The Wii U has great points and points that have never been seen before in the gaming industry but is what we are witnessing truly next-gen gaming?

The Wii U is going to get a lot of praise and a lot of criticism because of release date time frame. Being the first is never an easy task, but if that is something the company feels they can handle then players need a few unanswered questions, answered before they are sold on the new console. As the months progress players wait to hear more, we wait for major announcements and that push we need to put our money on the Wii U. There are three huge issues with the Nintendo Wii U that players refuse to accept. Find out if these common concerns are something to take into consideration about this next-gen console.

Controller Options:

First of all, one of the major advertising points for the Wii U is controller options. In almost every ad for this new console one sees there are obviously different ways to play the consoles. That means that players are not stricken to the touch screen controller (at least in certain games) but hearing about more options and seeing them in action is amiss. Nintendo has done a fantastic job of showing off the touch screen pad, as well as, the average Wii controllers but with the announcement of the Wii U pro controller it’s a wonder why they don’t elaborate on that option for the hardcore gaming community. What a hardcore gaming community wants to see is that they can play the Wii U as they play other favorite consoles, and that they can do so in large Nintendo exclusive titles. As of now this hasn’t been seen. It would be a much better selling point if they show a game as hardcore as Zelda being played in the way that every true gamers wishes to play the game.

Another issue has emerged with the Wii U and controllers. The charging system of the Nintendo Wii U game pad had been announced in the past yet gamers are still yet to see the means of how it will charge. It is said that the touch screen game pad controller will run of an AC adaptors charge. That means the player will plug their controllers in to charge however with the Wii U motion control integration the player may not be able to play while the device is charging. Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 have a way to play and charge at the same time so with a next-gen console like the Wii U players would think that the system would be improved not still a step behind.

No Official Price Announcement:

This topic has been brought up regarding the Wii U time and time again. There has still never been a price announcement for the console. The problem isn’t really the fact that we are anticipating knowing how big of a hole the Wii U will burn in our pockets but it’s the fact that not releasing any price information regarding the new console could mean that the price is going to be steep. They want players to need to play the console and yearn to have it in their hands before they let them know how much it will cost. The only reason why Nintendo should choose not to release any information on the pricing of the new console is because people may have been turned away from the new hardware if the price was stated. With that being said of course this isn’t the only reason why Nintendo may have wanted to wait on pricing, like announcing a special bundle or coming up with a set in stone release date first; but really not telling gamers anything regarding price make us believe that the price might just be a little more expensive than anyone is willing to pay at this point. How much is buying one of these going to cost us?

Nintendo Exclusives Hardly Differ from Wii Titles:

One of the last major issues that have been noticed about the Nintendo Wii U is the lack in sought after Nintendo exclusive titles. Of course, the Wii U is bringing Pikmin 3 to the table as well as many great third party titles but that doesn’t make up for the lack in the great Nintendo exclusives gamers had grown accustom to in the past. Before the Wii came out, gamers were busy engaging in great games on their GameCube’s and before that on the Nintendo 64. This was by far Nintendo’s highest point when it came to making games that gamers truly loved. When the Wii came out it appealed to a much more casual audience and that is what no one wants to see with the Wii U.

The major concern with the game selection is, for example, Super Mario Bro’s U. Take a look at this game compared to the Mario hits on previous Nintendo consoles. This looks like your average 2D, run from one side of the screen to the next, kind of game. There isn’t more to it than just that. What Nintendo should have done is come out with some of their most memorable characters and placed them in a game for gamers. Think about it like this, why didn’t Nintendo show off something in the lines of Mario U (taking it from a Mario 64 perspective), a new Star Fox game, or something off of the ‘Zelda U’ game they briefly showed at E3 2011? Those are the types of games that gamers can’t resist, not 2D simple game play that we’ve seen before.

Although there are still very concerning topics centered on Nintendo’s Wii U but that doesn’t mean that your questions won’t soon be answered. The Holiday season is quickly approaching so players will likely hear of pricing, release and more in the coming months.
