Are you ready and/or looking forward to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita’s PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale; a totally original idea that has never been attempted by anyone ever before and certainly not in the same gameplay style? Well then, this news story is for you! As, over the weekend whilst EVO 2012 was underway, Sony dropped a veritable banquet of PSASBR news on us. Or, rather, you, the extremely excited PSASBR player. (OK, I’ll stop with the stupid acronym now)
Find out all of the details after the jump!
Firstly, we have a collection of release dates for the game. If you’re North American; congrats! You get the game first on October 23rd. Next up, we have “most of Europe” which is publisher speak for “everywhere except Britain and Ireland”. They get the game on October 24th. Then, we have Australia and New Zealand whose release date is October 25th. And then, last and, in the grand scheme of things, certainly least, we have Britain and Ireland who get the game on October 26th.
What’s more, pre-order incentives have made themselves known. If you pre-order the title from anywhere (currently no retailer specific pre-order bonuses have been announced, thank the Maker), you’ll get an exclusive downloadable bonus costume. Yes, just the one. But it’s one alternate costume for everyone, as in: EVERY character in the game gets a brand new costume. Some of these, however, are way better than others, as the below image should demonstrate.
But what good is a fighter without, err, fighters? A mis-sold and severely under-stocked game, that’s what! Fortunately, Sony are on the announce path as two more fighters were revealed over the weekend. I know that a load of you were looking forward to seeing the reveal of Spyro, Crash Bandicoot or even Vib Ribbon, but I’m very sad to have to disappoint you. It’s none of those. Let’s start with the good, though, shall we? Heihachi Mishima is now in this game! You may remember him as one of at least 3 badass grandpas in the Tekken series and who last made his presence known in Street Fighter X Tekken.
Here’s a trailer of him to wet your appetite. Look out for the Tekken 5 reference!
So, you have Heihachi. That’s all well and good, but you want more. You want something different, something outside of the box, something… Japanese. Well, Sony are more than happy to oblige as the next playable character is Toro Inoue! You know, the mascot of Sony in Japan? No? Well, it was in Everybody’s Golf 5? The PS3 and Vita versions of Street Fighter X Tekken? Still nothing? Good, glad I’m not the only one.
Nevertheless, here’s a trailer for… it?
Finally, Sony unveiled a new stage for you to set your epic rumbles to the death in. It’s called Dojo and apparently crosses Parappa The Rapper with Killzone, of all things. I say “aparrently” because Sony haven’t released any images or videos for it, so I guess we’ll have to take their word for it. There are glimpses of the dojo from Parappa The Rapper in the two previously posted videos, so we are probably supposed to assume that that’s the level in question. In which case: cool.
And that’s your news about PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. With that, I can now go back to a] not caring and b] snarkily dismissing this game out of hand without having even played a second of it yet, like a professional cretin, and will continue to do so until its release! Unless they bring it to the Eurogamer Expo, in which case I will have genuine reasons for snarkily dismissing the game.
