Sony Launches Dedicated YouTube App for PS Vita

As promised
, Sony has released a dedicated app for accessing content on YouTube from the PS Vita. The app is available as a free download on the PlayStation Store.

As detailed on the PS Blog, the app features a interfaced tailored for the Vita’s touch screen, complete with two display modes. In small screen mode, a series of tabs with related content underneath are displayed on the right side of the screen, with the currently selected video occupying the left side. Full screen mode, as the name implies, fills the entire Vita display. Additionally, users can toggle between HD and SD video streams, just like on the YouTube site.

While it was a bit disappointing that the Vita launched without support for YouTube initially, it’s great to see Sony bolstering its app catalog with offerings like this. It’s another sign that Sony is serious about extending functionality beyond gaming on the Vita.
