The mysterious new Naughty Dog title, The Last of US, has given players some information about the game but until today details of the story remained unknown. The games director Bruce Straley as well as creative director Neil Druckmann have now released information of protagonist Joel and Ellie’s back story.

Both Joel and Ellie are not the last two survivors in this zombie outbreak. The pair live on the last quarantine zone run by the military. Joel has been alive since before the zombie outbreak and because of that he has become a tougher harder man. Because of his job working in the black market, Joel is willing to compromise some of his morals by accepting a job to smuggle a problematic 14- year-old girl named Ellie from the military compound.

Why Ellie must be smuggled from the quarantine is still unknown however what we do know is the theft goes wrong. The two are stuck outside the quarantine zone and if Joel returns he will be killed.
