One of PlayStation’s most notorious characters is certainly Sweet Tooth, aka Needles Kane. This crazed clown has made his way through a number of different Twisted Metal games, as well as, appearance in other games. He has gamers interested and intrigued by his demining always. This is a character that players just want to know everything about. He is dark, he is creepy and he is one of the most sinister characters in the gaming industry. Sweet Tooth is just one of those characters that a player can’t forget and even with the latest installment to the Twisted Metal series being released last February, we are still thinking about his intense ways, twisted mind set and urge to kill.
So a player can sit down and really ask themselves, who is Sweet Tooth? The answer to the question is nearly unanswerable. Sweet Tooth is Twisted Metal’s trademark character with an iconic flaming head and he stars in a number of different PlayStation exclusive games… but that doesn’t answer the question does it? Who is Sweet Tooth? Needles Kane, nicknamed Sweet Tooth from his classic ice cream truck vehicle of choice, is the very incarnation of detestation and obliteration. Although the interpretation of this character changes throughout each Twisted Metal game he is the character that managed to keep his image through the changes and remind players that his only goal in life is to murder and create turmoil. Sweet Tooth prides himself on being an unsurpassed serial killer and will do anything to preserve that label.
Now that we pointed out the obvious about this distraught clown has a player ever sat back and wondered about the secrets behind this character. A mad serial killing clown is enough to think about on its own, but haven’t we all just sat back and thought about the depth of such a crazed character? Needles Kane is the only character who has appeared in every Twisted Metal game to the series date. Although his name is not Sweet Tooth and that is rather his most popular vehicle choice’s name most people know the character better by the name Sweet Tooth.
It has been noted that there is a possibility Needles Kane is based off of the serial killer by the name of John Wayne Gacey. A coincidence between the two is the killing of their youngest son (Twisted Metal 2012). This seems like a direct reference to John Wayne Gacey who dressed as a clown and killed his 5 year old son.
Out of favoring his brother, Needles has possibly killed his father, Charlie Kane, in Twisted Metal: Black. Despite Charlie being murdered by a gunshot instead of Sweet Tooth’s classic machete it is a possibility after learning he had the courage to kill his own family in Twisted Metal (2012)
There are two games in the series where Sweet Tooth does not have his trademark flaming head, Twisted Metal and Twisted Metal 3.
Sweet Tooth has been in all 9 Twisted Metal games but has made an appearance in a number of other Sony titles. These games include Hot Shots Golf 2, ModNation Racers, War of the Monsters, and StarHawk. He will also be featured in the upcoming game, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal, which is coming out later this year.
