top games as “art”

is my belief that video games have the ability to transcend interactivity and to achieve a status as “fine art.” If film can find its way into art schools why shouldn’t video games? Mostly because “art” doesn’t sell. It’s not what the primary consumer wants. The every day Joe wants Halo. The average Jane wants Call of Duty. It’s only the hardcore gamers or even the thoughtful gamers that want more Ico or more Rez. So let’s get on with this list eh? They’re in no particular order, but they each stand as amazingly as the ones previous or after.

I’m going to break standard here, and rather than write an exceedingly arrogant explanation to why each game deserves to be here, I’ll just post a screenshot or three. Pictures speak a thousand words. Especially when one is dealing with the medium of art.
