The music game genre’s explosion in popularity has peaked and its appeal has slowly been dwindling as gamers have balked at spending money on the expensive music accessories during an economic down-turn. Viacom bought up Harmonix, the original creators of Guitar Hero, during the height of the genre’s popularity in 2006.
