Overview
Hardware sales have increased week on week across the board, up an average four percent. Year on year sales are a different story as usual, with the 3DS the only platform up, while the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are down a little bit and the Wii, DS, and PSP are down anywhere from 60 percent to 73 percent.
Five games debuted in the top 30 this week. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (X360) debuted at the top with sales of 670,866. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number four with sales of 234,932. Software milestones this week in the top 30: Diablo III (PC) passed the two million mark.
Worldwide Hardware
Week on week sales are up across the board. The 3DS is at the top this week with sales of 143,017 units, which is up 12,048 (9%). The PlayStation 3 is up 5,663 (4%) to 142,839 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 3,529 (3%) to 122,523 units sold. The Wii sold 64,415 units, which is up 1,035 (2%). The PlayStation Vita is up 409 (1%) to 50,842 units sold. The PSP sold 50,825, which is up 1,583 (3%) compared to last week. The DS is up 285 (1%) to 35,944 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 24,552 (4%) to 610,405.
Year on year sales are down across the board, except for the 3DS which is up. The PlayStation 3 is down 548 (-0%), the Wii is down 170,987 (-73%), and the Xbox 360 is down 15,055 (-11%). The PSP is down 77,619 (-60%) the DS is down 94,095 (-72%) and the 3DS is up 62,717 (78%). Year on year sales are down 243,649 (-29%).
All three home consoles have seen their sales increase for a second week in a row. The PlayStation 3 has led every week this year and the Xbox 360 has been in second every week, except for the week ending January 7 where the Wii outsold it. The PlayStation 3 has a 43 percent market share; the Xbox 360 has a 37 percent market share; and the Wii has a 20 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the Xbox 360 is up and the PlayStation 3 and Wii are down.
The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by 4 to 1, while the Vita barely outsold the PSP. The PSP has a 59 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the DS has a 41 percent. The 3DS has a 74 percent market share for the next generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 26 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down
Worldwide Software
Five games debuted in the top 30 this week. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (X360) debuted at the top with sales of 670,866. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number four with sales of 234,932. The game launched in North America and Europe and will release in Japan on July 5.
Dragon’s Dogma (PS3) debuted at number two with sales of 437,742. The Xbox 360 version debuted at number seven with sales of 161,830. The game launched Worldwide.
Mario Tennis (3DS) debuted at number eight with sales of 143,634. The game launched Worldwide.
Uta no Prince-Sama: Debut (PSP) debuted at number nine with sales of 65,332. The game launched in Japan, with no release date anywhere else.
Sorcery (PS3) debuted at number 11 with sales of 44,126. The game launched in North America and Europe and will release in Japan on June 14.
Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include Diablo III (PC) at number three with sales of 311,431. Max Payne 3 (X360) is at number five with sales of 210,809.
Max Payne 3 (PS3) is at number six with sales of 176,436. Mario Part 9 (Wii) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 60,964.
Week on week software totals are up across the board, except for the Wii which is down. The Xbox 360 takes the top spot this week with sales of 2.19 million, an increase of 393,655 (22%). The PlayStation 3 sold 2.12 million games this week, an increase of 408,717 (24%). Wii software sales are down 33,003 (-4%) to 829,500. The DS sold 467,935 games, an increase of 539 (0%). PSP game sales are down 3,390 (1%) to 288,486 games sold. The 3DS sold 404,569 games, which is up 123,403 (44%). The Vita sold 84,194 games, an increase of 1,608 (2%). Total combined software is up 898,309 (16%) week on week to 6.39 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and 3DS, and are down for the Wii, DS and PSP. The PlayStation 3 is up 462,070 (28%), the Wii is down 919,918 (-53%) and the Xbox 360 is up 539,958 (32%). The DS is down 512,232 (-52%), the PSP is down 63,842 (-18%) and the 3DS is up 157,260 (64%). Total combined software is down 261,510 (-4%) games sold year on year.
The Xbox 360 sold the most games for a second week in a row and for the fifth time in ten weeks. The PlayStation 3 led for the other five weeks. The Xbox 360 has a 43 percent market share, the PlayStation 3 with 41 percent, and the Wii with 16 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are up, while the Wii is down.
The DS leads this week and for the eighth time in 10 weeks, while the 3DS lead for two of the other weeks. The DS has a 62 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 38 percent market share. The 3DS has a 83 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 17 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
