The original owner of the Fallout IP, Interplay, sought to create a MMORPG off their creation called Fallout Online. Bethesda and parent company Zenimax sued Interplay to reacquire the rights to a Fallout MMO and after a couple of more lawsuits across a couple more years, the two companies have reached a settlement that kills development of any Fallout game by Interplay.
