CD Projekt Red Talks About Its Upcoming Title, Cyberpunk

In a recent Q&A session, CD Projekt Red Community Manager Marcin Momot answered some questions surrounding the developer’s upcoming title, Cyberpunk, based on the pen-and-paper game of the same name. Regarding the studio’s inspiration for the game, Momot listed “works of William Gibson or the Blade Runner movie, we also take from the first Ghost in the Shell, both anime and manga.” Additionally, the community manager stated that ShellShock‘s unique gameplay was also an important factor in the creation of Cyberpunk, as was “the first part of Deus Ex.”

The Witcher developer plans on giving players plenty of freedom over their character, allowing them to customize and personalize him more than Geralt from Witcher 2. Cyberpunk will remain true to its pen-and-paper roots in a lot of aspects, all the while delivering a strong narrative with a focus on player decisions and character class types. “In Cyberpunk, each character role will offer a set of special skills that will impact your stats in many different ways,” explained Momot. “That’s where the challenge kicks in, we want to create a game where character customization will be strongly tied with the plot.”

As explained in the Q&A, Cyberpunk will technically take place across the entire world, but the focus of the upcoming game will be in a location known as Night City. Players will be able to explore “an open, living world that stays true to the source material.” Cyberpunk looks to be an interesting video game take on the classic pen-and-paper experience. Watch out for more info straight from CD Projekt Red.
